Ian Lawson presents three beautifully imagined XL Art Books. All the way through the photographer's journey, from dreams and desires to realisation. Blending documentary and landscape genres, Ian's work weaves together evocative picture stories from the Outer Hebrides, the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales.
Summer can come late to the Hebrides, but when it does rare wildflowers make their presence known. This fragile coastal grassland, so cherished by crofters, suddenly explodes into a riot of colour. Down on my hands and knees, my camera among their bright brooches, I try to capture those many tiny bursts of spirit. In their brief life I see death, regeneration, transformation and little glimpses of wonder. What a celebration, I believe nothing truly compares to the magic of the machair.
