Story
Peak to Peak
The majesty of the Lakeland Fells lies suspended between the seasons. From the water’s edge at Sharrow Bay, I watched snow flurries sweep across the high country, the speeding clouds parting just long enough for piercing light to kiss the greening shore, as the valley below stirred with early spring.
Snow simplifies a landscape. It softens the detail, disguising the mountain’s weathered face—ephemeral, yet transformative. But it is the light that defines the fells most of all. Light that shifts the mood of lake and fell—and something within us, too.
This photograph is the result of time spent among these elements—waiting for the moment when weather, light, and land align. Through the long lens of a panoramic camera, I felt fortunate to bear witness: the open water at my feet, metal-sheeted and majestic; the summit of Helvellyn, crowned with drifting clouds. A scene held in balance—brief but complete.
