Hills of Home
This is where Seilebost and Luskentyre meet on the Isle of Harris. Gulf Stream warmth softens the winters, yet the Clisham range often stands cloaked in snow—its white peaks a striking contrast to the azure shallows below. The seas here shine with a luminous light, gentle and clear across bright sands, whispering of warmer climes.
Boundary and landmark, the snow-clad heights of Clisham and her sister peaks watch over Harris’s northern villages and harbours. It is December, and the air is sharp, almost electric. With watering eyes, I take in sea-greens as pure as polar ice, and land that seems to glow, even as cloudbanks begin to snuff out the last of the winter light.
If you still seek solitude, come in winter. The days may be dark, the skies often heavy, but the few moments of light you find, brief as they are, can be the most special the Hebrides will offer.
And so, I say what I always do when I leave: I will see you again.
