Story
Scenic Connection
The colours of this morning are brilliant beyond belief. Old bracken glows amber, bare rock gleams bronze, and the sky, pastel in its blueness, is reflected in the still waters of Blea Tarn.
A ribbon of single-track road winds through this hanging valley, linking the high ends of Great Langdale and Little Langdale before descending toward Fell Foot Farm.
Without the towering silhouettes of the Langdale Pikes—names like Pavey Ark, Harrison Stickle, and Pike o’ Stickle—the journey would be merely pleasant. With them, it becomes unforgettable. Their rugged heights—home to hardy Herdwick flocks—rise steeply from the valley floor in Great Langdale, their presence here ennobled by the splendid forewater in front of me. Together, they form one of the most iconic and stirring views in all of Lakeland.
