Story
From the Croft
Remote Uig, a district of long-abandoned villages and cleared croft land. By the expanse of a deep tidal bay, communities continue to proudly cling to this beautiful place, renewing their relationship with the land, deepening their connections with each passing year.
I’ve spent the last two days in remote Uig, home to ancient chessmen, long-abandoned villages and cleared crofts. But communities continue to proudly cling to this beautiful place, renewing their relationship with the land, deepening their connections with each passing year. The hills rise up, cutting a swathe into low banks of Atlantic cloud and from the wound bursts sunlight, bringing blue-greens to the bay below. These are the moments I long for. It’s not an easy place to get to, and not an easy place to leave.
