Story
Beautiful Ewe
A rare portrait of a Herdwick ewe and her lamb—descendants of the flock Beatrix Potter established here with her shepherd, Tom Storey, in the 1930s. This ewe, bred by current tenant Garry Dixon, stands as part of a living legacy.
Beatrix dedicated the latter part of her life to protecting Herdwicks and preserving Lakeland’s hill-farming way of life. Her gift to the future can still be seen today, not just in the strength of the flocks, but in the farms she saved for generations to come.
Though the world beyond has changed, Hill Top remains steadfast: a working farm, a living home to Herdwicks, and a living memory entrusted to the future.
