Ian Lawson presents three beautifully imagined XL Art Books. All the way through the photographer's journey, from dreams and desires to realisation. Blending documentary and landscape genres, Ian's work weaves together evocative picture stories from the Outer Hebrides, the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales.
In the distance, a pair of ethereal Eriskay ponies prance among the marram grasses. Their white manes catch the breeze, bleached from the salt-seas of a long Hebridean winter. As they play, high-spirited hooves kick up clouds of sand which drift across the dunes, caught by a rising breeze. Lit by the split of a setting sun, they suddenly turn and gallop towards me at full tilt, only to reign themselves away at the last second. Caught up in their rambunctious ripstream, I spin around to capture these beautiful creatures as they flow freely onwards, losing themselves in the last of the evening light.
